The advocacy of diversity, equality and inclusion are the core of Disney's community initiatives. Since 2005, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDLR) has welcomed guests to experience fully immersive stories and imagine the possibilities within them. That same commitment continues into the Hong Kong community, over the past 16 years, HKDLR’s Disney VoluntEARS have served a total of 111,000 volunteer hours in the community. HKDLR has been committed to help building a stronger community with the power of Disney magic can make a positive difference to the community, especially during the recent fifth wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Sharing The Magic To Local Community With Freshly-Cooked Meal Boxes
Since 2014, HKDLR has collaborated with Foodlink Foundation (膳心連基金) to collect surplus food to distribute to those in need, including elderly homes, underprivileged families and children. HKDLR’s VoluntEARs program and Foodlink have together provided more support to local community during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In light of the increasing demand for food assistance, a new meal box donation programme, “Disney Meal Box Express” (「迪士尼快閃膳心行」飯盒捐贈計劃) was introduced in June 2021 with over 12,500 healthy and freshly-cooked meal boxes provided to local families. HKDLR also continued to expand its surplus food donation programme with the Foodlink Foundation to help local residents.
Michael Moriarty, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, said: “Our theme park has been required to temporarily close during the pandemic. But I’m grateful that with the unwavering passion from our Cast Members and our community partners, we collaborated and continued to spread the Disney magic and warmth to the community. We hope to meet you all soon in the park!”
Halal Food & Essential Goods For The Local Ethnic Minority Families
HKDLR noticed that local ethnic minority groups have found themselves in urgent need of assistance. As such, HKDLR has donated packs of Halal food and essential goods to over 2,000 local ethnic minority families through The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (NAAC) and The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), which is expected to benefit more than 10,000 people in the community. This show of support is hoped to ease their difficulties during the Pandemic, and provide them with some much-needed warmth and comfort.
Ms. Elina Fung, Executive Director of The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (NAAC), said, “We serve many ethnic minorities in our daily service. A lot of them have been born raised here, but their traditional cultures remain an important part of their lives. During the pandemic, they have faced difficulties with purchasing food, affecting their livelihoods. This calls for those who can to offer assistance and help one another.”
HKDLR, which has been offering joy and happiness to its guests for the past years, has not forgotten about others in the local community who need support too. Apart from ethnic minorities, HKDLR has also utilized its resources and network to connect different suppliers with various local charities and NGOs. HKDLR gathered a number of materials, including Disney-themed merchandise and face masks, and other essential materials to be donated to local families and sick kids in need. Over 15,000 people will benefit from the initiative.
