Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, first appeared in 1963 Amazing Spider-Man #2 and created by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko. Quentin Beck is specialized in Hollywood movie special effects. He weaponized special effects props to get his revenge against Spider-Man, this got headlines to frame Spider-Man as a museum robber while Beck was a hero. The name "Mysterio" was inspired by the film II Mysterio from his idol, the legendary special effects artist Ray Bradhaus.
In Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man Far From Home, a sequel to Spider-Man Homecoming, Quentin Beck was a former employee at Stark Industries. During his presentation at MIT, right before the 2016 Captain America Civil War event, he became embittered as Tony Stark disregarded his entire life's work, this led him to lost his job.
Seeking his retribution, Beck had joined forces with other former Stark employees to create a new superhero named Mysterio. They combined holographic techniques and projector drones to create surrealistic imagery to torment and disorient the young Peter Parker Spider-Man.
By creating a series of world threatening illusions, Mysterio gained Nick Fury's trust to get closer to Spider-Man. He then would be able to take control of the Stark technology E.D.I.T.H. that Iron Man Tony Stark gave Peter, he was planning to lie and conquer the world.
