In January 2020, Disney mistakenly announced that 20th Century Studios (rebranded "20th Century Fox")'s final X-Men film "The New Mutants" is the latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
The description was quickly removed from the official D23 website, the information was presumably misprinted. That is, the "The New Mutant" is being a part of the MCU is not true.
Even if this might not be divulging information, perhaps this movie consists of hints on how Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios brings the X-Men characters into their movie realm.
The acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney took place on March 20, 2019. The movie distribution rights for the Marvel's X-Men and Fantastic Four have been returned to Disney's Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios has not revealed their plans for both properties in the MCU yet, Kelvin teased fans in the last year 2019 San Diego Comic-Con (2019 SDCC) that X-Men and Fantastic Four films are currently in development. In the meantime, Disney has been working to release the Fox X-Men movies ("Dark Phoenix" and "The New Mutants") before the deal finalized.
Rumors had started to circulate that Disney was considering "The New Mutants" to be the introduction of MCU X-Men. Paying homage to Fox's franchise with several X-Men references. While there is no official confirmation of this tie-in, we have developed some theories on how Marvel can build up the iconic team in the silver screen.
Some confirmed Marvel movies:
- New Mutants (Apr 3, 2020)
- Black Widow (May 1, 2020)
- Eternals (Nov 6, 2020)
- Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings (Feb 12, 2021)
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 5, 2021)
1. Professor Xavier
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" could be a gateway to introduce Professor X. Mikey Sutton recently announced that Doctor Strange will feature "The Illuminati" — a group of extremely intelligent and powerful individuals to handle the Avengers-level threats.
Not to mention the Disney+ show "WandaVision", which takes place before the event of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". If Vision is recovered or somehow tell Wanda of seeking the professor help, this will be an interesting storyline. Vision can see the world and detect the presence of the mutants. Could Vision be the string to unite the X-Men together? Showing to the government that there is a way to live peacefully with normal people?
2. Psylocke
WGTC reportedly saying that the X-Men character "Psylocke" may be joining the MCU in "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings". Psylocke (aka Betsy Braddock) embraces precognitive abilities, that is, she can manipulate minds. With the ninja warrior’s skills, she boasts some fierce combat skills. Fun fact: Hollywood actress Olivia Munn, aka Psylocke in Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse, she was a reporter in Iron Man 2. If Marvel wants to keep the original cast for a fresh start, Psylocke has the potential to become the first member to begin with.
