Hong Kong Disneyland supports 57th International Mathematical Olympiad

Nearly 1,000 event participants enjoy magical park experience amid competition

香港迪士尼樂園度假區（香港迪士尼）全力支持，香港在7月6日至16日期間，主辦「第57屆國際數學奧林匹克」─ 世界性中學生數學競賽。香港迪士尼今日邀請了全部近1,000名來自世界各地的參賽師生，在緊張又刺激的大賽過後到訪樂園，一起放鬆心情，享受香港歡樂之旅。

To show support for the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) — the world championship mathematics competition for high school students being hosted in Hong Kong from July 6 to 16 — Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) has invited almost 1,000 event participants from Hong Kong and abroad to visit the park today. HKDL welcomed the students with a relaxing park experience that will ease their tension amidst this high-level, international mathematics competition.

       歷來最大規模，來自超過110個國家及地區，約有1,000名數學奇才近日雲集香港，參與這項數學界的盛事。香港迪士尼樂園度假區公共事務副總裁蔡少綿表示，香港迪士尼希望為經過連續兩日賽事的師生們，帶來輕鬆又愉快的一天：「香港迪士尼作為區內的旅遊首選目的地，我們歡迎遠道而來的一眾老師及學生，希望能與他們分享歡樂，展現香港好客之道。在比賽之餘，令他們可以體驗在香港旅遊的樂趣。」

About 1,000 mathematics talents from more than 110 countries and regions have gathered in Hong Kong for the competition, making it the largest ever. Linda Choy, Vice President of Public Affairs, HKDL, expressed hope that the teachers and students would be able to spend a relaxing day in the park after two-days of intense competition. “As a leading tourist destination in the region,” she said, “HKDL welcomes these participants from afar and would like to share happiness with them. We hope they can experience Hong Kong’s hospitality and enjoy a fun trip.”

       國際數學奧林匹克香港委員會主席岑嘉評表示：「國際數學奧林匹克帶領逾110個國家及地區的學生來到欣常及體驗香港。作為主辦城巿，我們感謝香港迪士尼熱情款待學生及領袖，讓他們在樂園享受了一個充滿樂趣的奇妙一天。」

Professor Shum Kar-ping, chairman of the IMO Hong Kong Committee, said, “IMO brings together students from over 110 countries to see and experience Hong Kong. As the host city, we are thankful for Disney's hospitality to let students and leaders enjoy a fun and magical day at the park.”

      繼1994年後，香港今年再次主辦「國際數學奧林匹克」比賽。今次一共派出5男1女，合共6位學生參賽。超過200名本地大專院校及中學的師生投入義務工作，支持及負責接待工作。今屆賽事由香港科技大學協辦，香港特別行政區政府教育局作為主要支持單位。

IMO was held previously in Hong Kong in 1994. This year, Hong Kong has six students from the territory in the competition, including five boys and one girl. Over 200 teachers and students from local universities and secondary schools have volunteered to support the competition. IMO 2016 is being co-hosted by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and supported by the government’s Education Bureau.
